About Me and My Teaching Method
Hello, I am Sonserae Leese. I have been a professional, working, traditional and digital artist for over 30 years. I have had the privilege of working on top-rated Animated Feature Films and Television shows created at Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures, Nickelodeon and other fantastic studios. I am now passionate about teaching students what I have learned over the years so they can also fulfill their dreams of being a thriving artist, like myself, and doing what they love!
I teach comprehensive learning classes in drawing and painting based on a method I developed for years of learning, supervising at film studios and teaching. I have created a step-by-step drawing and painting program, teaching the tools to creating great art beginning with step one. My students are able to see how far they have progressed in their learning and how to make successful drawings and paintings from session to session. I teach and have taught in private tutoring or classroom setting including at a university level.
My students learn to draw accurately to scale, use contrast, value, and composition, along with many drawing tips and tricks I have learned over the years. Students will learn the elemental foundations of art, (Line, shape, form, value, texture, space, color, composition, etc)
I have a number of private students who have been my students for a number of years and they are at an advanced level. They learn figure drawing basics, perspective basics, character design, digital art, and special projects to advance their skills and creativity as an artist. We also start working on projects that will give them a strong portfolio for applying for art schools and art conservatories.
I am able to be flexible and work according to your schedule. I only accept a certain number of students at a time so I can give them the best possible instruction I can provide. I also am happy to work with you in achieving goals according to deadlines needed for school applications. I believe students should finish their work and by the end of the course sessions, the student has many finished pieces sufficient for a portfolio. I have students from age 6 to age 70+. Anyone can learn if they have the desire and commitment and it is so rewarding to see how my students blossom in their talent from week to week! I look forward to teaching you or your loved one soon!

With all of these free online classes,
why do I need a tutor or comprehensive class?
One of the most important aspects of learning is getting feedback from an expert. I have many students who said they have taken online courses but without feedback, they don't know how to work on problem areas they need to improve upon. Many times we can be blind to our own flaws and constructive feedback can help us be aware of things we need to focus on to improve. A good teacher not only praises you for your improvement, but also can point out areas of improvement to work on. I am gentle and patient and encouraging in my feedback.
