Unified School District Summer School
June 10-July 11, 2025
Four different art classes specifically created for 3 different age groups over 4 days. These classes were then repeated at 5 different schools in the Desert Sands Unified School District. We taught at Franklin, Lincoln, Van Buren, Hoover, and Jackson. Each class had an average to 100-140 students and I taught over 1000 at-risk students over a one month period. What an amazing experience and the kids loved the classes!!
Day 1: Coloring and Character Design Day
On this first day I did a presentation on the animated films I worked on for Disney, Sony and Nickelodeon. The kids were so excited to hear about it and see my demo reel clips. I then had them do their own character designs based on four of the characters of Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire. They cut out different eyes, nose and mouths and pasted them on the blank character faces. They could also draw in the facial features. I loved to see their creativity and excitement!
Day 2: Air Dry Clay Day
On this second day, the kids created various monsters and robots made from Air Dry Clay. They also were given the choice to create anything they wanted. Their creativity astounded me!
Day 3: Painted Rock Day
On this third day, the kids learned how to paint rocks into various characters and objects such as fruit, insects or animals. The older kids learned the dot painting technique as well.
Day 4: Origami Day
On this fourth day, the kids learned the history of Origami and made origami cats and dogs and the T-K kids made origami heart envelopes where they colored a picture and wrote a nice message inside.
